Originally opened in 2016 as a Japanese bakery and café, KAME has grown into an insider spot for Japanese dishes. In two locations in Charlottenburg and Mitte we are serving you a variety of savory and sweet bites, beyond the usual ramen und sushi. As a speciality our chef prepares Bento Box and Oshi Sushi at our location in Leibnizstrasse.
Run by the Japanese diaspora in Berlin, we bring authentic Japan to your taste buds.
Our Bento Box combines Japanese and regional ingredients in the style of ichiju-sansai to create a bento with a deep umami flavour as a vegan, fish or meat variation.
Ichiju-sansai 一汁三菜 is the principle of a balanced composition of healthy ingredients and dishes and an integral part of Japanese food culture.
Oshi sushi has its origins in Kyoto. Originally, these were prepared with preserved, pressed fish, as Kyoto is a long way from the coast. KAME has created new roast beef or vegan interpretations of this traditional dish. The rice and filling are pressed into a mold, which imparts a wonderful texture, before being elaborately topped.
Toshihide Kameda felt called to become a chef at the age of 18. In Kyoto, he learnt the traditional Japanese cuisine kaiseki ryori and the chakaiseki cuisine offered at tea ceremonies.
He now brings to KAME the wealth of experience he has gained since 1996, as a master of kaiseki ryōri in Japan and as a chef in Macau and China.
